Kundalini Hostal & Montanita Beach

Our friend Ruy from Cuenca grew up surfing the central coast of Ecuador. He was one of the pioneers of the surf scene back in the ‘70s. Ruy currently owns Sakura, the primer sushi restaurant in Cuenca. His old surfing buddy Hugo owns a quaint beach front hostal where we spent 2 nights, Hostal Kundalini. The atmosphere is breezy beach casual with thatched roofed bamboo cabinas. The hostal “lounge” is an open palapa with hammocks, cushions and a big screen TV for watching your favorite DVD’s when there’s no surf. The highlight is the cervesa doorbell, ring once and very accommodating, polite fellow arrives with a cold grande pilsner in hand.
